THE VISUAL

 

The Visual is quite graphic – a human brain being stamped – ‘branded.’  Being ‘branded’ is a mark of being controlled – being a slave to another. 

 

‘Brands’ – are also a popular modern invention – central to the modern consumer society we all inhabit – being ‘branded’ by a commercial brand is also being made apparent by the visual. 

 

The whole process takes place on a conveyer belt, an impersonal, repetitive function.  Humans are therefore being ‘branded’ by not some ‘caring,’ ‘paternal,’ authority, but an ‘uncaring,’ ‘impersonal’ authority.  The individual is nothing more than a product conveyed on a conveyer belt.  The Visual is therefore stark and powerful - your mind is not only being ‘branded’ – ‘taken over,’ but this purpose is being carried out by an ‘impersonal,’ ‘uncaring’ regime. 

 

THE TEXT

 

Line 1:

‘Who do you belong to?’

​

The concept of freedom, is central to human existence.  Belonging to someone else is a ‘restriction,’ on the ideal of total freedom we all aspire to and believe we have or should at the very least pursue. 

​

The pursuit of this freedom can therefore be seen as a central – ‘Spiritual aim’ or ‘pursuit.’  Whilst the ‘spiritual pursuit’ may inhibit/limit our freedom in some way – we may believe in an all powerful ‘Deity’ or ‘Force’ - which by definition is limiting to any concept of absolute freedom.  Most spiritual and esoteric traditions regard this ‘limiting of freedom’ as being’ liberating’ itself.

 

The knowledge and understanding of this all powerful – being, be it a form of ‘Deity’ or ‘Source’ and an understanding of our relationship with this ‘entity,’ is therefore ultimately regarded as being ‘liberating.’  Thus, acknowledging – even ‘serving’/worshiping this all powerful entity, is regarded as being the ultimate expression – of freedom.  Seen in this sense the line ‘who do you belong to?’ – is an expression of this ultimate freedom.

 

This can only work however if you ‘belong to’ – are owned by this 'All Powerful'/'Absolute Deity'/'Source' – anything less is a form of ‘slavery.’  Thus, the line ‘who do you belong to?’ and the answer to it - determines whether you are a ‘free individual’ or a ‘slave.’

The reader is invited to ask the question and give an answer – ‘who do I belong to?’ - am I really a ‘sovereign individual,’ or am I a slave?

Line 2:

‘Be yourself!’

​

If one thinks about this carefully – being ones self is liberating – if not the ‘ultimate expression’ of liberation.  Whichever way you look at it, it must be regarded as something to be seriously pursued at any rate. 

​

If you have no belief in any Deity or Source i.e. you are atheistic in your understanding – it doesn’t really matter – since being yourself as a basic ‘logical proposition’ must be ultimately what your existence is all about. 

​

Your ‘essence’ even if you are atheistic in your mind set, must be to express yourself – or your being (ness) – this therefore is the ultimate logical pursuit of your existence.

​

If you are not atheistic in disposition – and have a belief in a Deity or Source as being the ground for your existence – then being yourself – again, is an ultimate expression of freedom - since the Deity or Source that created/formed/produced you if it is 'All Powerful' - 'All Knowing' etc.. and it has made you/created/formed you – must have formed you to ‘be yourself!’ - Again, considered as a simple ‘logical proposition’ - ‘being yourself’ – becomes a powerful – and ‘sure’ way of being free!

Whichever way you cut it, as they say, ‘being oneself’ – an expression of your ‘essence’ – is a central liberating concept, one should strive to pursue.
